A Whole 30: Day Zero

Last night I got myself to bed before 10pm. That's a major thing for me. It was midnight on Saturday night and all of last week was probably not before 11. I know I need more sleep, but just like the food, sleep was very hit and miss. It also bothered me no end to wake up at around 4am almost every morning. And someone's, several other times in the night. But apparently it's common to wake at the end of a sleep cycle. So, no more keeping myself awake angsting about cortisol issues. I slept well last night. Woke up a few times and went back to sleep. I woke up finally at about 6.30am and got up ready to go 20 minutes later.

I started getting my breakfast ready, well aware the cupboard was almost bare as yesterday was market day...and I was elsewhere. I managed to find a red onion, a parsnip and a couple of carrots to throw in with the bacon. All nicely cooked together with butter.  I also made rather a good coffee. And then another a bit later - not my usual habit but my partner was home with a cold and I was being nice to him. Moving on...

I took myself off to a local park for walkies. 3ks in about 40 minutes. That'll do me for now. A quick stop at a supermarket to restock the vege and home for lunch. Mushroom, courgette and onion, this time cooked in coconut oil and a large slice of ham. I couldn't eat it all.

Dinner had been cooking all day. A large beef silverside in the crockpot. I chopped up half a cabbage and fried it in butter with garlic and did some mashed potatoes for the family. Instead of potatoes, I had a good helping of freshly roasted vege cooked in a mix of duck fat and coconut oil.

Sometime during the morning I took some measurements to help me compare some progress at the end:
Bust:     45.5 inches
Waist:    40 inches
Hips:     52.75 inches
Yes, I know we use centimetres here. I used to do a bit of sewing and quilting, everything was in inches. I understand inches better.

So, tomorrow's breakfast and lunch is pretty much sorted. I think I have a handle on dinner too.

Photos below show dinner, lunch and breakfast in that order - I really need to do this on my laptop rather than my tablet I guess. The fork is for perspective. I've no idea if that is enough food but I've managed today alright with just a little tired late afternoon. Tomorrow is work. My job is retail, so on my feet all day. Depending on what needs done, I may have heavy lifting, up and down ladders, or just plenty of walking. Some days it can be a real workout, others not so much.

One thing I'm not entirely confidant about is taking my coffee without cream and totally cutting the butter I use for cooking. I'm going to give it a go. At the end of the 30 days I'll be able to find out if it affects me badly.
