Events

I don't get out much. Hardly ever. Seriously. I'm one socially backward awkward lady - and I'm not afraid to admit it! I have made it to Knit Night at my LYS precisely twice due mostly to this issue. The other part of it is laziness. But I shan't dwell on that side of the problem. I go to work, deal with kid stuff, deal with home stuff and use whatever energy I have left over to knit a row or two every evening. I contemplate going to various things on a regular basis. I even make proper plans to go. And then usually pike out. I don't really understand the reasons for this, suffice it to say there's usually some feeling of not fitting in, being the odd one out and sticking out like a sore thumb, total and complete public humiliation about to befall me, and various other similar things that I'm sure stem from at least one particular incident I still remember. It's all my own stuff and I know it...have to find a way to push through it before I end up as a hermit, the lonely old lady I get on the phone at work, who's only form of human contact seems to be calling and asking if we have this or that product in stock several times a day. I will not become that person if I can help it!

In the next few months I'm moving somewhat out of my comfort zone and attending two events, one requiring me to travel and stay with people I don't know for four days. I am very excited about both events as they are excellent learning opportunities for my knitting.

The first is Handmade. I went to this last year, had one class booked for the day but ended up getting in to a second at the last minute. I planned the spindle spinning class and decided the night before to try for the sock knitting class. They were both very good and gave me the motivation I needed to be prepared for this year. It's held on Queen's Birthday weekend, conveniently enough it's my birthday on the Friday before so I'm taking that day and Saturday off for a good four day weeekend. Saturday afternoon I'm taking two knitting classes with Morag from Vintage Purls. Sunday I'm taking my boy to a cheesemaking class, going to a knitting talk, taking my step-daughter to a class sewing with luminous thread to make a flower and I have also booked her in for a class directly before to learn amigarumi. I taught her to crochet last week and she's been practising hard in anticipation. Least I forget to mention: a weekend of awesomeness without a doubt!

The second I'm still in the process of arranging for and will mention more about closer to the time as details are confirmed but I'm just as excited about this - that'll be another four day weekend as well.
