An idea...needs a plan.

I just deleted an entire post. By accident. I hit on something that highlighted all the text before hitting the backspace button intentionally and it all went up in smoke! That makes me rather cross. Anyway, I shall now endeavour to recapture what I had previously typed.

No, really, I don't think I can.

I went away last weekend to an event in Napier called Knit August Nights, or KAN. I shopped, knitted, learnt things, ate and socialised (something I rarely do!).It was great and I shall be doing everything possible to get back there next year.

The main class I took was a two-parter. Friday afternoon and then Saturday afternoon, both for several hours. It was awesome but covered much more information than I was capable of ingesting in such a short space of time. However, what it has done is given me direction in my exploration of improving my knitting. Or more to the point: shown me how little I know about knitting. There is so much more to learn than I thought possible! By the time I got to the Saturday portion of the class my brain was fried and trickling out my ears. And I hadn't been able to get all the homework done which put me further behind. So, I pretty much gave up and listened. Thankfully I have a good handout to carry on with.

Saturday morning I took two shorter classes. These were both far less intense and it helped that I had a slight head start in one. The first, Introduction to Continental Knitting, was a no-brainer as I've been using a variant for most of the year. I'd become a little frustrated and figured being taught in person was an enhancement over learning from You Tube I should take advantage of. So now I have better tensioning, a quicker purl stitch and am enjoying it more. The second class on Saturday morning was Introduction to Blocking. Helpful and informative, I learnt what I needed to be able to block anything well. It was definitely a good choice.

So, that was it, a fairly intense learning time over one and a half days. There was a dinner on the Saturday night and Sunday was spent sitting around at the venue knitting and chatting, laughing and meeting more people I hadn't had much chance to interact with. And Monday it was home. A week later I still haven't properly unpacked, almost, but not quite.

I have no photos. The results of my knitting endeavours are a good deal of a stripey sock in certain House Colours. It's going to be a bit of a long term project methinks as I'm determined to use all the yarn of both colours - 50g of each colour for each sock. I'm even running clean increases up the calf to make it fit my legs! So far so good.

And now I've run out of steam, it's dinner time here, so I shall dish it up and finish the day with some knitting, what else!
